You're Amazing: National Hot Toddy Day!
I know I’ve been quiet on the blog front, but I felt compelled to overcome my blothargy (I figure that’s what you get when you combine blog and lethargy) because Coujo just informed me that today, January 11, is National Hot Toddy Day. Otherwise known as warm whiskey deliciousness day. It’s particularly terrific before bed and especially if your feeling a little sick. Some...

35 Reasons Dogs Hate the Holidays →
(via Coujo:Neatorama:Buzzfeed) If you have to be at work today, you might as well entertain yourself with a little holiday cheer in the form of dressing up a dog. There’s 32 more pictures of dogs who look ridiculous and a little bit sad because they know it. Happy Friday!

Did You Know Santa Clause Is Really A Goat? →
Here is the second installment of the Santa stories written by twin 10-year-old girls. While there are no dinosaurs in this one (truly disappointing), this 10-year-old has worked in some rhymes and some sheep that look like fart x’s when they fly.    And polar bears who wrap gifts because penguins don’t have thumbs (and polar bears do?) And, the final touch of brilliance -  the...

Holiday in the Face →
Today’s one of those days that would have felt better left in bed. But since I have to sit in my cubicle, I feel marginally better and slightly more entertained while watching people get hit in the face with holiday food items like egg nog (check out the Kevin video), fruit cake, the jello has a really good spring to it, the lo mein is kind of lame, but the sausage is pretty serious. I...

If Santa was a T-Rex →
(via Coujones:Fat Cyclist) It’s story by a 10-year-old girl, Carrie Nelson. While I appreciate the premise and the surprise twist at the end, and while I know that I’m nit-picking the creative liberties of a 10-year-old, I disagree that a T-Rex Santa wouldn’t know what to give as gifts. I think he would give dinosaurs to everyone. I think most people would be happy. This is...

You're Amazing But... How Did I Not Know About...
Apparently there is an annual even called Draw A Dinosaur Day. It’s January 30. Every year. How did I not know about this? Not that I’m that great at drawing, but I am good at looking at dinosaur drawings.  What is up, indeed. And! If you want more children’s drawings of dinosaurs and a story to go with it, here’s a book mostly written and illustrated by a pre-school...

Got a Girl Crush project: Dumped! →
Great pictures of people getting things dumped on them. Food and otherwise. Here is one of those life lessons that would probably be good to drill into your brain before it actually happens, so if you’re ever in the situation you do it: If someone is dumping something on your head, close your mouth.  It seems that the general instinct is to open one’s mouth in reaction. Fortunately...

Before & After: Bedroom (for 3 kids!) Makeover →
I’m feeling the need for sparseness again. It could be the massive mound of my clothing covering the dresser. I love the sparse look, but I always have too many things that I also love. By the time they’re all placed there’s just a line of thing-to-thing things around every wall.  This bedroom seems super tiny, but she still managed to squeeze in 2 beds and a crib, plus a desk...

This seems like it would be fun to try to make. If I only liked gin. Maybe it doesn’t taste much like gin, maybe more like flavored vodka. Now I’m in.  (via flamgirlant)

This Is Why I'm Broke →
If you’re like me you haven’t started your Christmas shopping yet. I even had dreams about it last night.  I learned about This Is Why I’m Broke when I got into work this morning. Emporer X tonight
Just a heads up if you’re looking for something to do tonight: What’s Protocol? is hosting Emporer X tonight in a living room, I think. Experimental indie folk pop in a small space - a warm and cozy activity for a chilly rainy night. Dominic Angelella of DRGN King will also be there. You might want to check it out, but if you do, be sure to RSVP to make sure there’s room. ...

Vote for the New Philadelphia 76ers Mascot!
Now, I am not at all into watching basketball, but I do love a mascot. Particularly a ridiculous mascot. I might have to start watching the 76ers. Here are your three choices - you can vote here and see more views (and outfits! Click to enlarge so you can see their shoes!) : Big Ben I am a fan of Big Ben’s stomach - he’ll be able to wield that thing just like the Phanatic,...

Day 1: Done
First day of the new job and I got out two hours early. I also learned that the university is closed between Christmas and New Year’s: automatic vacation time. I may never have to work on my birthday again. And at the faculty lunch buffet I tried three different desserts. Don’t judge me. Not bad for a first day.  I’m still nervous, but I’m pumped! Happy Monday!

(via NPR First Listen) I have a soft spot in my heart for R.E.M.  I remember listening to it alone driving in my mom’s car to and from my summer job for most of a summer in high school. I think I had it on cassette borrowed from a friend. It was way after it came out. I loved it for its clever lyrics. It has a certain whine and angst appropriate for high school. It probably still ranks...
